There are moments that remind me why I started Bearing the Barricade in the first place—and one of them happened earlier today when I got a message from Newfoundland’s very own rising country star, Justin Fancy.

After connecting with Justin recently, I knew it was the perfect time to shine a light on one of Newfoundland’s brightest country stars as he takes a major step forward in his musical journey

So here is the artist feature

This is Justin and his daughter Kayleigh, who’s tagging along to Cavendish and hoping to meet Lainey Wilson. Can we all agree this is the sweetest thing ever!

The Rise of Justin Fancy: A Newfoundland Star on the National Stage

Justin isn’t just “that guy from CBS who sings”—he’s a rising force in Canadian country music, bringing authentic East Coast storytelling, powerhouse vocals, and a humble spirit to every stage he steps on.

He’s been featured on CTV, Global TV, CBC, and of course, our local pride NTV. But the momentum doesn’t stop there. Justin has also received nods from CMT.com, iHeartRadio.ca, Top Country (who crowned him Artist of the Month back in May 2021), Complete Country, SOCAN, FYI Music News, and even Grammy.com—yes, that Grammy.

His debut album “Sure Beats A Good Time” (2021) wasn’t just a strong first impression—it was a record-breaker. That year, Justin took home both Country Artist of the Year and Rising Star of the Year at the MusicNL Awards, a feat that hadn’t been done by the same artist before. The East Coast noticed. Then Canada noticed.

In 2022, Justin brought home the East Coast Music Award for Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year, a reminder that this isn’t just a career—it’s a connection. One that runs deep with his listeners, both here at home and across the country.

Fast forward to last year ( 2024) , and he’s still collecting accolades—earning MusicNL’s 2024 Country Artist of the Year title and proving that the buzz around him isn’t fading anytime soon.

Radio, Road, and Recognition

With over 6 million streams across platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, and consistent editorial playlist support, Justin’s sound is resonating with a wide audience. His newest single, “Break My Heart Again,” is currently trending on New Country—yet another sign that his blend of modern country and traditional roots is hitting all the right notes.

He’s also a staple on Canadian Country Radio, with over 90 stations supporting his singles. And let’s talk about that live show energy—Justin has shared the stage with country powerhouses like Brett Kissel, The Reklaws, Meghan Patrick, Robin Ottolini, The Washboard Union, and Aaron Goodvin (who he’ll be touring Atlantic Canada with this November as direct support!).

A Moment for the East Coast

What makes Justin Fancy so special—beyond the accolades, streams, and national TV appearances—is his unwavering authenticity. He’s still that East Coast guy who believes in family, who sings from the soul, and who never forgets where he comes from.

Whether he’s playing a bar in St. John’s, standing backstage at a major festival, or sending a sweet message about taking his daughter to Cavendish, Justin leads with kindness, humility, and purpose. He’s not chasing the spotlight—he’s earning it, one story and one song at a time.

So, when he steps onto that Bell Main Stage on July 12—opening for Lainey Wilson, standing beside his daughter—you better believe that all of Newfoundland is standing with him.

And Kayleigh? Fingers crossed, girl. Im rooting for you to meet Lainey!

And to Justin — thank you for reaching out. You didn’t just ask for a review… you reminded me why I fell in love with covering music in the first place.

Justin is performing on the Bell Main Stage at Cavendish Beach Music Festival July 12th Don’t miss it.
