Back in August, Canadian-Lebanese singer, songwriter, and producer @karlwolfs made a stop in St. John’s Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it out to the show myself — but music has a way of connecting people even when you can’t be in the same room. Lucky for me, a friend managed to get in touch with Karl, and I had the chance to send along a few questions for a short but insightful interview.

I actually grew up listening to Karl’s music, so getting the chance to connect with him, even through a brief Q&A, felt extra special. His songs were the soundtrack to so many moments in my life, and hearing his perspective on his journey made me appreciate his artistry even more.

Karl is no stranger to global success — from his early work blending Middle Eastern influences with North American pop, to his breakout smash “Africa”, which skyrocketed him to international fame. He’s breathed new life into fan-favourite classics while also driving the band’s evolution into their newer material. Fans often praise not only his drumming chops but also the way he connects with the audience on stage, keeping the heartbeat of the band alive every single night.

With the track hes been teasing for a while .. HUSH HUSH

The beat itself is hypnotic. It carries a perfect tension between order and chaos, making you feel like you’re floating through a party you’ll never forget. Written by the powerhouse team of Boris Baker, Brett Emmons (yes, from The Glorious Sons—one of my all-time favourite groups), Cam Wyatt, Julia Finnegan, Thomas Draper, and Stephen Adubofuor, the track showcases Kasador’s ability to blend raw emotion with a polished, melodic rock sound.

With their upcoming EP Kasador II dropping next month, Talk offers a tantalizing glimpse into the direction this band is taking: introspective, bold, and deeply human.

Talk immediately grabs you with its simplicity and vulnerability. The lyrics are conversational yet striking, opening with lines like, “Come down & meet me babe / I don’t care what you did / It don’t affect me at all.” From the very first verse, Kasador sets the stage for a song that balances honesty with the messiness of human relationships. we’re transported into a world that’s at once playful and tinged with melancholy. It’s the perfect example of RKS’s signature style: blending everyday moments with profound, heart-wrenching emotion.

This has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write for Bearing the Barricade. Because honestly, I thought this man would be immortal. Like, how could he not be? Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness — a living legend whose voice and spirit seemed too big, too raw, and too untouchable for the world to ever lose.

But today, I’m sitting here to tell you that Ozzy is gone.

It was announced this morning that Ozzy Osbourne passed away — just weeks after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates for one last epic farewell concert, a gift for the fans who had followed him for decades.

Reading that news broke something inside me. It’s the saddest thing I’ve ever read.

In a statement from his family, it was said:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”

Ozzy’s health had been fragile for some time. He battled Parkinson’s disease and faced many other challenges, including complications from injuries sustained in a fall in 2019. It’s heartbreaking to think about how hard those last years must have been for a man who lived so fiercely, so wildly.

If you don’t know this band yet, you’re about to fall down the best rock rabbit hole. Andre Pettipas and The Giants are a wild, high-voltage rock band from Nova Scotia with explosive stage energy, razor-sharp musicianship, and just the right amount of chaos.

I first saw them live at the ECMAs this past May — it was my first time ever hearing them, and I was floored. One song in and I literally said out loud: “WHERE HAVE THESE GUYS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?” 😂

By the end of their set, I had a new obsession: a track called “Definition of a Dweeb” and yes it SLAPS — it’s also the song playing in this post 🎶

Andre also has a powerful solo song called “Gypsophila” featuring Jeremy Taggart (you might recognize that name — he’s the drummer from Our Lady Peace!). It’s a deeply emotional tribute to Andre’s niece and truly something special.

And if that’s not enough, Andre also runs Giantstock — a rad music festival held every year in Merigomish, Nova Scotia. It’s definitely on my bucket list to visit someday!

That you’re going to find your place in this world, and it’s going to be louder, brighter, and more magical than you ever imagined.

The last 5 days have been nothing short of absolutely life-changing.… I don’t even know where to begin…

Two years ago, I made a decision that changed everything. I started @bearingthebarricade . I had no idea what would come of it, but something in me said: just go for it. And now, here I am— just wrapped up covering the biggest music event in Atlantic Canada!

I made new friends, new industry connections, and had so many pinch-me moments that I lost count.

Honestly, for the first time in my life, I can breathe and say with confidence: I finally found where I belong. This is what I was meant to do.

To my younger self — the girl in Grade 7 who sang at talent shows and school concerts, who dreamed so big — look at you now. You did it. You covered the freakin’ ECMAs!!! I wish I could go back and tell you that it’s all going to be worth it. This week, I had the chance to dive into a song that left me speechless. It’s “Gypsophila” by @andrepettipas , lead singer of André Pettipas and the Giants. After meeting André at the ECMAs here in St. John’s, he graciously reached out and asked if I’d review this deeply personal track. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had to share my thoughts.

“Gypsophila” is one of the most raw, vulnerable, and poignant songs I’ve come across in a long time. Written in memory of André’s niece, Blake Everleigh, who tragically passed away at just three months old from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the song reflects the profound emotional journey André has experienced in the wake of her loss. It’s not just a song—it’s a story of pain, healing, and the courage to keep moving forward despite unimaginable grief.

André’s decision to write this song took him two years after Blake’s passing. This week, I had the chance to dive into a song that left me speechless. It’s “Gypsophila” by @andrepettipas , lead singer of André Pettipas and the Giants. After meeting André at the ECMAs here in St. John’s, he graciously reached out and asked if I’d review this deeply personal track. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had to share my thoughts.

“Gypsophila” is one of the most raw, vulnerable, and poignant songs I’ve come across in a long time. Written in memory of André’s niece, Blake Everleigh, who tragically passed away at just three months old from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the song reflects the profound emotional journey André has experienced in the wake of her loss. It’s not just a song—it’s a story of pain, healing, and the courage to keep moving forward despite unimaginable grief.

André’s decision to write this song took him two years after Blake’s passing. Day 4 of ECMA Week might just go down as my favorite night yet.

Everything about it—from the artists I saw to the energy in the rooms—reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place.

The night kicked off with @sheavymetal , a metal band that brought so much power and grit to the stage. Their sound filled the room and shook the floor (in the best way). You didn’t just hear them—you felt them.

Then came @apandthegiants —and I was instantly hooked. Their vibe is so addictive: big sound, infectious energy, and a total blast to watch live. I had never seen them before, but by the end of the set, I was a fan for life.

Next up was @elyseaeryn, and she was everything I hoped she’d be and more. Her voice is so full of emotion and strength, and there’s a sincerity in the way she performs that pulls you right in.

Then I saw @maggiedandrew , and WOW. She has that star quality that just radiates. Her performance was electric—so confident and captivating. She absolutely owned the stage.

And finally… @neondreams . My guys. This was my fifth time seeing them ( and will be my 6th also) , and it still felt just as special as the first.

They’ve been my favorite band since I was 17, and every time I get the chance to see them live, it reminds me why. Being reunited with them was a highlight of my entire year. Of course, we had to get a group pic to make the moment last just a little longer.

I started my evening at The Rockhouse where I just caught the tail end of @deehernandezmusic set (literally walked in mid-song), and then rushed to the front for my absolute favourites— @withvioletband . I’ve seen them before and they never miss. Right after, I caught @patenteband for the first time and HOLY—they were wicked. Insane energy, such a tight sound.

Then it was time to hustle to The Majestic Theatre for Showcase #2 and catch @deedeeaustinmusic —who absolutely blew me away. From there, I finally saw @quotetheravenduo live for the first time after listening to them for a while

And lastly @loganrichardmusic closed out my night with a smooth, soulful performance that tied it all together perfectly

And just like that—three days down.
Tonight will be Day 4… and we’re down to the final stretch.

DAY 2 RECAP – ECMA 2025 Gala Night

Last night was something special. The 2025 East Coast Music Awards Gala was everything I hoped it would be and more. I was in a room surrounded by some of the most talented artists across Atlantic Canada—plus so many amazing local acts representing Newfoundland with pride.

I just want to talk about the show itself. One of the most powerful moments of the night was @shanneyganocknl tribute to the late Mark Hiscock. It was emotional, heartfelt, and a true celebration of a Newfoundland legend. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room 🥺❤️

And hearing @theirishdescendants perform Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary’s as it was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame gave me full body chills. That song is woven into the fabric of this place, and hearing it live in that setting was unforgettable!

Honestly I just sat back and took it all in—the lights, the sound, the people, the stories. The music This whole experience is one giant dream come to life, and I’m doing my best to soak in every second of it.

And of course, I’ve gotta give a huge shoutout to my media bestie Tara ( @iliekfreezies ) —having her by my side through every week this week for ecmas .

On to Day 3 we go… and trust me, there’s lots more to come.

DAY 2 RECAP – ECMA 2025 Gala Night

Last night was something special. The 2025 East Coast Music Awards Gala was everything I hoped it would be and more. I was in a room surrounded by some of the most talented artists across Atlantic Canada—plus so many amazing local acts representing Newfoundland with pride.

I just want to talk about the show itself. One of the most powerful moments of the night was @shanneyganocknl tribute to the late Mark Hiscock. It was emotional, heartfelt, and a true celebration of a Newfoundland legend. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room 🥺❤️

While hanging out with a friend recently, they put on “Tattooed Roses” by @treatyoakrevival — a band who I had never listened to before. One play turned into a deep dive, and now I get it.

Based out of Odessa, Texas, Treaty Oak Revival is a gritty country outfit blending Southern rock, raw lyricism, and enough soul to floor you mid-chorus. This song, off their 2021 record No Vacancy, is a perfect gateway into their sound — emotional, rugged, and lyrically rich

“Tattooed Roses” isn’t just a breakup song — it’s a haunting post-mortem of a love that left scars deeper than skin. Sam Canty’s voice carries a gravelly ache, soaked in regret and realism. The story unfolds through the ink on a woman’s skin, as she replaces an old name with a rose, not to heal, but to hide.

The genius of this track lies in its vulnerability. Lines like “Well there ain’t enough ink in her arm / To cover up the charm, of the man that she wants / But in a week she probably won’t” cut deep.

You feel the denial, the deflection, and ultimately, the truth: no tattoo, no drink, no distraction can rewrite what love once was — or wasn’t.

Instrumentally, the band delivers a dusty, full-bodied sound. Jeremiah Vanley’s lead guitar carries a subtle anguish that compliments the vocals, while the rhythm section — courtesy of Andrew Carey (bass) and Cody Holloway (drums) — gives the song a slow burn, like a cigarette at closing time. This is truly the biggest opportunity of my life. I started Bearing the Barricade back in 2023, pouring my love of music, storytelling, and Canadian talent into a space I hoped others would connect with. Since then, I’ve covered Churchill Park Music Festival for two years, jumped into the energy of George Street Fest, and now—somehow—we’re leveling up again: the ECMAs!!!

Going to the East Coast Music Awards has always been a dream of mine. I’ll be soaking up five full days of music, showcases, interviews, panels, and so much more while running all over downtown St. John’s.

There’s gonna be a ton of amazing music, incredible talent, and honestly—many of the artists I’ve supported or follow this blog are nominated or performing at the showcases or the main awards which just makes it even more meaningful

To everyone who’s ever read a post, shared one of my interviews, encouraged me when I doubted myself, or just believed in this little blog I built from the ground up—thank you. You’ve helped me reach a point where moments like this are even possible.
