As someone who’s essentially grown up with Virginia To Vegas’s music echoing through the airwaves, his Greatest Hits album feels like flipping through a photo album of my own life, with each song marking a distinct memory or emotion

This whole album it’s a heartfelt homage to the journey, the fans, and also a very personal tribute to his late father

So And a music blogger and a steadfast fan of Virginia To Vegas, it’s honestly a privilege to review ‘The Greatest Hits’ album !

Track by track review

We are stars : the album opens up with a nostalgic bang. This song not only launched Virginia To Vegas’s career but also became a staple of my childhood soundtrack, especially here on Newfoundland’s radio stations like 99.1 Hits FM (now Hot 99.1) and OZFM. And I vividly remember the music video playing on Stingray Juicebox during their Saturday morning block on CTV honestly If you remember Stingray Juicebox, you’re officially qualify for an discount 😂

Lights Out : reinforcing the artist’s knack for creating tunes that resonate on a deeply emotional level. This track, with its memorable beats and lyrics, reminds me of the countless times it filled the air in Newfoundland ( again his music played a lot here when I was growing up and it still does ! ) , becoming a personal favorite for its unique blend of energy and emotion

Selfish : now this song takes me back to high school bus rides in the mornings on the way to school, a song that perfectly encapsulated teenage angst and longing. Its popularity, mirroring my own affection for it, proves Virginia To Vegas’s ability to tap into the universal feelings of youth

Just Friends : “Just Friends” brings forth the complex emotions of youthful connections, a theme that resonated widely, including on Newfoundland radio ( I know I keep saying this but I'm serious his music plays here alot ! ) and Its presence on the airwaves provided a backdrop to countless friendships and relationships, marking it as a timeless piece of Virginia To Vegas’ discography

Betterman : another song that became the trend of Virginia To Vegas dominating local airwaves here In Newfoundland! His ability to articulate the complexities of relationships and personal growth in catchy tunes is unmatched

No Excuses : this is a cheeky number from his EP It’s a Little Complicated, But I’m Okay, showcases Virginia To Vegas’ playful side with its pop sensibilities and humorous lyrics. It’s a reminder not to take life too seriously ( and yep also another one of his songs playing here in Newfoundland ! He has also performed here too ! )

Don’t Fight the Music, from his debut album, and What Are We, off A Constant State of Improvement : have both provide a glimpse into the artist’s evolving sound and lyrical depth. They encapsulate the spirit of youthful optimism and the search for identity

Better With You : delves into the notion of incompleteness without a significant other, reflecting on past experiences with a sense of longing and introspection. It’s a beautifully crafted piece that speaks to the soul

Palm Springs (The Way You Make Me Feel) and Malibu : both serve as anthems of my last year in high school, embodying the carefree, hopeful essence of youth. They were my daily soundtrack, filled with dreams and aspirations

Lastly, Time, which is the brand new track, stands as a fitting finale to this collection. It encapsulates the journey of Virginia To Vegas, reflecting on the growth and changes over a decade. This song, alongside the album, not only honors Baker’s father but also resonates with my own reflections on loss and aspiration.

So In conclusion, “The Greatest Hits” by Virginia To Vegas is not just an album; it’s a milestone that celebrates the evolution of an artist who has become an integral part of the soundtrack of my life. Here’s to commemorating ten years of musical brilliance and looking forward to the melodies that the future holds.

Congratulations, Virginia To Vegas, on a decade of exceptional music
