We’re only a few days into 2025, and already it’s shaping up to be an exciting year for music lovers. One of the most anticipated releases is the return of The Lumineers with their fifth studio album, Automatic, set to drop on February 14. As one of the most beloved indie-folk bands of the last decade, the announcement of this new album is a big deal for fans, myself included. If you haven’t already heard, the lead single “Same Old Song” is available now, and it serves as the perfect teaser for what’s to come. Automatic promises to be an introspective journey into the absurdities of modern life, exploring everything from the increasingly blurry lines between what’s real and what’s fabricated, to the ways we numb ourselves in an age of overstimulation and endless distractions. The band’s lyricism has always tackled the complexities of the human condition, and it’s clear that with Automatic, they’re delving deeper into some of the most pressing themes of today’s world. As we all navigate our way through this chaotic world, songs like “Same Old Song” help remind us that we’re not alone in trying to make sense of it all.
In addition to the excitement surrounding the album, The Lumineers have also announced preliminary 2025 tour dates, and I have to say, it’s got me pumped. While they’re set to hit some major cities across North America, the Canadian stop is limited to Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls this February. Sadly, this means no Newfoundland stop this time around, especially after their epic performance at the Churchill Park Music Festival in 2023. But even with a lone Canadian date, fans can still look forward to the chance to see the band live again, which I know will be worth every minute. If you're like me and can't wait for the full release, the band has also offered a sneak peek of Automatic on Spotify, giving us a little more to look forward to in the coming weeks. The tracklist for Automatic is stacked with intriguing titles, from the introspective “Same Old Song” to the curious “Asshole” and “Ativan,” each hinting at the album's reflective tone. Here's the full tracklist for those who can’t wait to dive in:

With songs that promise everything from emotional rawness to musical experimentation, this album is likely to be a defining moment in The Lumineers' career. Whether it's the stark beauty of their stripped-back sound or the captivating complexity of their lyrics, Automatic is sure to leave an impression.
As the countdown to February 14 begins, it’s clear that 2025 is off to an amazing start for both fans and the band alike. So, get ready to press play, because The Lumineers are back, and I have a feeling this album is going to be one we’ll all be listening to for a long time.
