Resonance Beyond the Horizon: An Ode to Iceberg Alley 2023

Five months ago, I fulfilled a longtime dream by attending the renowned Iceberg Alley Performance Tent, a festival that holds a special place in the hearts of Newfoundland and Labrador music enthusiasts. The anticipation had been building for years, hindered only by age restrictions that barred me from previous editions. However, this year, on June 16th, I finally stepped into the musical haven that featured an eclectic lineup, including Fairgale, Lights, and the much-anticipated headliners, Arkells. – who happen to be one of my all-time favorite bands

This festival has been on my radar for years, but only by age restrictions in the past years I couldn’t attend . I vividly remember longing to be part of the crowd when Fakeshark and The Glorious Sons graced the stage, but as youth stood as an insurmountable barrier. Patience paid off, and finally, I found myself in the midst of the festival’s magic.

And The festival unfolded like a dream as The night commenced with the melodic tunes of Fairgale, a local band that set the stage with an energy that reverberated through the crowd. Their performance was a testament to the rich musical talent thriving in Newfoundland and Labrador, and I eagerly collected their Setlist, a tangible souvenir of the night’s opening act

The anticipation built as Lights, a childhood favorite of mine, took the stage. Her performance was nothing short of mesmerizing, making it evident why she holds a special place in my musical heart. It was a dream come true to witness her live finally after so many years and the atmosphere was charged with an electric energy that lingered throughout the night

Yet, the pinnacle of the evening was undoubtedly the set by Arkells, a band that holds a special place in my heart. This marked my third time witnessing their live magic, and each performance only deepens my appreciation for their artistry.Little did I know that before their electrifying set, I would have the surreal opportunity to meet Max Kerman, the lead singer. Engaging in a conversation with him was beyond my wildest dreams and it was the absolute best night of my life

As I left the festival grounds, the echoes of Arkells’ performance resonated in my soul, seeing lights and fairgale and the memories of meeting Max Kerman lingered, making it, without a doubt, the best night of my life.
